Hola, everyone, and hola Brian!!
WE are in Jocotepec and I had to check on my Hughes Autoformer RV220-50. The voltage inside my 5th wheel was high, and I was depending on the Hughes to lower the voltage. The Hughes has a light to say that it has park power, and the other to say it is on boost mode. Neither light was on.
I checked the voltage coming from the park and it was 122, and the voltage coming out of the Hughes was 138. I checked it at other power poles and it was doing the same. My Progressive Industries 30 amp surge protector was not hooked up, since it had caught on fire at a Matehuala RV park a few days earlier.
Our park had transformer fires during a large caravan visit. I am thinking that the Hughes suffered damage when this occurred.
The Hughes was purchased several years ago, so there is no warranty on it. The Hughes User Guide recommends that the unit should be returned for service. BUT, I am in Mexico and do not plan on leaving, nor plan on mailing out this heavy box.
I am thinking about having it checked out here and take my chances. If it is completely fried, and beyond repair, I have found a local electric shop that sells the SOLA BASIC 4000 for $3,400 pesos, which , I think is fair.
What are your thoughts on the Hughes issues? And, I can see that most people here seem to favor the Sola Regulator.
