Reminder - Stay Out Of Chicago Next 3 Weekends

The Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) through Chicago will have lanes closed the next three weekends:

6/13-15 - for 55 hours all Eastbound lanes closed at Ohio/Ontario feeder. Eastbound traffic will use two temporary, 15 MPH lanes.

6/20-22 - for 55 hours all Westbound lanes closed at Ohio/Ontario feeder, detour will be on surface streets including a turn around!

6/27-29 - for 55 hours Eastbound Ohio exit (that handles all downtown traffic will be closed.

IDOT is predicting massive traffic jams on ALL area expressways. Detour routes are i-294 (toll road and heavy traffic any day); farther west on I-80 to I-355, also a toll road and pricy - $29.60 for a PU with a 2 axle fiver or a 2 axle MH with toad, higher for a three axle.

Personally I would recommend I-80 West to I-39 going from Indiana to Wisconsin or the reverse.

Kennedy project to be completed sooner than expected.

State transportation officials announced Saturday afternoon that the Kennedy construction project is ahead of schedule and could be completed in two weeks instead of three.

They are trying to get it done before the Fourth Of July.
  • We just bounced our way from St. Joseph, MI on I-94 to I-80 west to exit 145 and then went North at exit 145 on hwy 45 to hwy 83 to I-55 to get around the worst of the mess.

We were headed to Darien, IL.

What I can tell you is that I94 south of St. Joseph in Michigan was being worked on. Indiana was just one pothole after another. The new sections (already completed) are already getting broken up.
hwy 45 has some work zones and width limitations. We were in a truck camper and did fine with that.

The roads are horrible. We drove around Grand Rapids, MI for a few days... and could not believe the damage. We were here in 2012 and it was not at all like it is now. Batten down the hatches...'cause no matter what road you are on around Chicago and northern Indiana, you will not be able to avoid the pot holes. They are continuous.
