This winter we will be spending several months in Mazatlan as we normally do. However, we are planning to take the ferry to La Paz towards the end of March and drive north through Baja. We will have the six month import sticker on our vehicle and are wondering about having it removed at the border. This has never been an issue returning via Nogales but is it easy to do this at Tecate or Mexicali? Does anyone have some advice about this? Thanks.

You are going to have to drive East across The Northern Baja before exiting Mexico at One of the Mainland portals. The option is to leave Baja at Tj or Tecate then drive east across. The USA ,re enter Mexico and make a U Turn at the Vehicle permit facility to turn in the permit.Personally I would try Mexicalli or San Luis!

Just heard back from the Banjercito and was told that it could be processed in Mexicali. Glad that we don't have to go all the way back to Nogales!

Can't you get it removed at the La Paz ferry terminal? There must be a Banjercito either at the terminal there or Mazatlan as TIPs aren't required in Baja.

The crossing at Tijuana to San Diego does not have any area where the Banjercito can remove an Import sticker, and they are in the process of remodeling, I have never seen any module on the entrance to the US, they a have new buildings on the entrance from the US to Tijuana, I have no Idea if they have a Banjercito module, if not the next Banjercito module is in the Mexican Consulate in San Bernardino on "D"St and "3"Rd, on the 215 going to Vegas exit on "5"th,St East and go to "D"St turn right and the building will be on the left about 3 or 4 blocks, in front of the Court House, hard to park an RV so one of you drive arround the block while the other one gets the Banjercito person to come out and see the removal of the permit. Tecate is a better choise to have the permit surrendered, or Mexicali.navegator

WRONG DAMMIT!!The SOLE Banjercito that can cancel a permit is located at the OTAY MESA crossing point. 2 Blocks before the actual frontera on the WEST side of the street.Let me define SOLE.You cannot do it in Tijuana, Tecate, Mexicali, Algodones, or Sonoyta.You can cancel at the Banjercito near CABORCA, Sonora but this is a little east of the planned exit route.Verified when my feet were actually standing in the oficina de Banjercito at OTAY MESA.OTAY MESA is the commercial truck and auto crossing 20 minutes EAST of Tijuana. Take the NEW TOLL ROAD just north of Ensenada EAST and NORTH and one leg will dump you right on the boulevard.The cross street for Bajercito is FREY JUNIPERO SERRA and the main boulevard to the border crossing.

All of México operates this way. Its like the FIFTY PERCENT DUTY imposed on USA used cars that are legally imported into the states of Baja California and Baja California Sur (July 2014) that used to be duty free. Like the IVA sales tax raised to 16%. No more zona fronteraza.

in 50 years I have been handed so many bum steers, just plain Pinocchio grade "expert" advice down here I am sensitized to inaccurate info.

Don't worry to much Mr: MEXICOWANDERER, we just had to make 4 trips to the Mexican Consulate from the Palm Spring area twize in one day for some simple documents that we had to get NOTARIZADOS, the best was when the Notaria asked for my passport and then asked me for my birth certficate, I told her all the information needed was all in the American Passport.

In any case maybe the moderator might let you place a page and you explain to all of us where and when to traverse the borders, I have onlly used El Paso, Ciudad Juarez, Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, and The McAllen, Reynosa crossings, we have friends that live in Tijuana in Playas and only trvell there with the suv, never taken the rv in to Tijuana, before used to go in the VW camper

So as you see there are a number of US not as versed in the art of border crossing.
