I came north from Ridgecrest last fall. 95 is no problem. Fill up in Marsing or Jordan Valley. The next reliable gas is in McDermitt. From McDermitt on, gas stations are at a comfy interval. The road is great - the only rough portions are the ones that burned in a wildfire a few years ago. And those aren't a big deal.
There are a few passes once you get south of Fallon, but they are all gentle and no big deal.
Fill your tanks again before you leave Hawthorn.
How are you planning to get to 395? I took 6 into Bishop and hooked up with 395 there. Again, it's a good road with no troubles. I tow a 19' travel trailer with an F150.
Big services along that route after you leave the interstate in Nampa are Winnemucca, Lovelock, Fallon, Hawthorn (nice RV sites right on the hwy if you need to stop), and then once you get to Bishop you're out of the boondocks.
As far as snow... The way this year has been going there is no predicting that. High winds can come up at any time along the whole route. I crept home doing about 40 mph because the winds would not let up, and a bigger storm was coming in. Other times have been dead calm and I've cruised along doing 70. There is no predicting that stuff this far in advance.
