yes that's an option, but I just don't want to hop off and pay any premium price. I like the idea of planning.... would you just hop off and pay for any old room or would you plan it?
I won't be running all over looking for gas, however, being a New York State resident, I don't like filling up at the full service rest stops along the NYS Thruway. Prices are raised, so I'd rather hit the local stations. We travel differently occasionally. I don't haul my camper when we go to Disney, so we stop along the way for the night. that's what i meant.
Thanks everyone for the tips...feel free to keep em coming. I'll take anything i can get.
Ferris,
You need to decide that you will be traveling with a smart phone and a laptop. Get one (or both) of the kids to learn Street Atlas. Get GasBuddy on the phone and get the overlays for Free Overnights at the
Discovery Owners site and load it to SA. There is also RVParky and Alstays as both a phone app and a website. Then pre-map and enjoy your excursions. Get DW to driving and you can cover a great deal of territory in comfort.
Carrying internet underway can be expensive if you are not real careful and you can get by without it.
Yes, fuel on NYST is tough, but then there are the tolls - too. We use the Southern Tier whenever we go east. Between GasBuddy for Fuel and the free overnights, travel can be very cost effective.
