Anchorage to Tok, you go through Glennallen, not Valdez. The last couple of trips, we have found fuel to be the highest in Glennallen, anywhere we drove in Alaska. FYI, Alaska uses the term, borough, instead of county. But much of the state is not in any named borough. ( known as the unorganized borough or disorganized, depending on a person's viewpoint)
From Anchorage take the Glenn Hwy to Palmer, and east to Glennallen, the turn north and follow the Glenn Hwy to Tok. The section of highway from Glennallen to Tok is known as the Tok Cutoff. The Glenn and Richardson Hwy use the same roadbed for a few miles north of Glennallen, to the Y near Gakona where they split, with the Richardson going to Delta.
