Couple of thoughts on fuel pricing:
- A trip to Alaska by RV (or otherwise) is expensive. Don't expect otherwise.
- For trips in the Eureka-Glenallen-Valdez-Tok area, after 30+ years driving in the area, I've found that Glenallen almost always has the highest prices and one can go to any of the nearby communities and usually beat the pricing ("We offer fuel ___ cents per gallon cheaper than Glenallen").
- Strangely enough, at least in the summer of 2012, that mechanism worked for av gas as well. I was able to buy 20 gallons of avgas from a lodge owner in Chitina for about $1/gallon cheaper than in Gulkana.
- Would strongly suggest that those of you with big tanks top off in Palmer or Wasilla if headed up the Parks or the Glenn and in Fairbanks if you're headed down either the Parks or the Richardson.
As Joe b. mentioned, incorporated areas in Alaska are boroughs, cities, or municipalities (or defined unincorporated areas or Census Designated Places or >>>>) but not counties.
