The little town of Eagle is bracing for a potentially bad break-up this year. Their memories of the record high waters in 2009 are still fresh.
http://fm.kuac.org/post/eagle-residents-prepare-breakup-draws-nearLast year in early June the Alaska Highway, Cassiar Highway and Campbell Highway all had flooding at the same time. We had just arrived back in Yukon a few days before and had noted the very high water on our drive home.
Alaska Highway was closed for four days near Rancheria (between Teslin and Watson Lake) while a temporary bridge was put in. The washed out area is still rough gravel ... got a flat on the truck there in early March!
It was also closed near Kluane Lake due to a mudslide across the highway until crews could get the mess cleaned up.
