"Can someone give me a recommendation on a rod, spinning reel, line and tackle combo?"
Can't offer specifics since my gear is in AK and I'm currently stuck in Ewe-stun.
7'-6" - 8' medium action spinning rod
Quality spinning reel
reel-ful of 8- 10# test
Variety of spinners, spoons, Pixies
Some snelled hooks with a loop for holding eggs if/when baitfishing is allowed.
Above is my setup for pinks (don't chase them much) dogs (don't chase them much) silvers (favorite fishing in the state) and reds (try hard, but I don't have much luck with reds). For reds, tie a fly on the end of the line...most of the time reds are simply snagged in the mouth anyway.
For kings, go with a medium-heavy rod, up the line to 15 - 20# test and get bigger lures. Silvers (in my non-technical jargon) seem to get mad at lures and seem to try to eat eggs. Kings try to push lures out of the way (in my non-technical view) and try to carry eggs upstream.....meaning its easy to tell when you've got a bite from a silver, but you've got to be aware of the nuances and be willing to set the hook hard for Kings; they've also got a harder mouth.
