A number of years ago, we flew into Calgary from Florida where we lived at the time, brought our backpacking tent, sleeping bags, etc for a stay in Banff and Jasper. We bought a cooler and grill when we arrived then set off - what a trip! We were able to secure a camping spot in Yoho near the lodge (they only allow tents in this CG, or at least that's all they used to allow.) We had to ride into the park on a school bus, as we weren't allowed to drive private vehicles. It was beautiful, the hiking was wonderful - decided to get into flyfishing after watching a gentleman from the lodge flyfishing and catching decent sized trout in the lake there. One evening, one of our neighbors recited the "Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service, it was wonderful, first time I'd heard of him. We have visited the area since, love the drive between Banff and Jasper. Have never visited Kelowna or the wine country, look forward to sampling the fine food and buying some ice wine (at least those are small bottles, easier to bring a few home over the border within our allowance.) We are planning to stay at Haines Hitch up RV Park too, glad to hear someone else enjoyed it. Can't wait to pick up the little r-pod and start getting ready!
