Cost savings: Carry as many supplies as you can into Canada that will not be an issue at the border. Avoid the high price mom/pop fuel stations in Canada which in 2013 was up to $6.50/gal for diesel which was less than regular. Get the 5% PenFed Visa Cash Back CC for fuel, good in US and Canada with no transaction fees. We got Capitol One Visa cash back on all other purchases. Do not buy fuel at the stations with 3 cents/liter discount - about 12 cents/gal. With the PenFed card you'll get 25 cents/gal cash back.
Check the map: Bacically there is only one route and you can't avoid construction on those roads. You may or may not have a pilot.
Dalton is 400+ miles of dirt. Many hire a van rather than take their own rig or car.
Protect your radiator from rocks. Cover the TV and trailer front. Even then expect rock damage. Slow down, pull over or stop when meeting oncoming traffic.
