Laying out our route and plans as I type!! We are leaving Eastern NC late April, and kind of wandering through the northern plains and crossing over in Montana heading to Fairbanks with a couple of months to tour and soak up some of the "Last Frontier". Been following this thread for a while, great info! Has anyone thought of, experienced, or poo-pooed the idea of leap frogging down the coast via ferry with stops in some of the coastal towns w/ a XX ft. 5er??
Thought about it and then figured out the cost of boarding and unboarding at different spots. Cost is measured by the foot front to back including the tow bar/dolly if you are towing. Not thinking of it anymore as it would cost about half as much as our camping/driving for the entire trip. Maybe on another trip in a few dozen years.
There are many options for using the AMHS ferry besides the long Bellingham or Prince Rupert to Haines or Skagway route. Take a look at my 3/13 post for shorter routes and for routes that you can leave the RV behind for a few days and use the ferry like an Inside Passage cruise ship.
