AStinker...(that's some moniker)...I can only speak about BC, eh..some Rest Areas are signed No Camping or No Overnight Stopping. I have never, ever been asked to move on. The purpose of the rest area is just that...to rest, rather that drive tired. The signage allows the police to have someone move if they are camping..some of our rest areas are nice enough to want to do that very thing. (in the Okanagan especially). And as for pull-offs, if there is no signage, it's there to be enjoyed.
I get the odd sly comment about my penchant for overnight boondocking (free). Here's my reasoning. Most campsites are between 20 and 30 a night. Most at the 30 mark. One month of 30 a night camping = $1,000. I always figure that money is better in my wallet than not. If a person has an RV they don't 'need' a formal campsite, they simply prefer it and I am good with that. Keeps them out of the good ones!
Enjoy your drive thru our province. If you can, one day go via the Okanagan. Lakes, wineries, golf and fishing. The route up thru the Cariboo is a drive thru cowboy country. The key to enjoying of course, is to take your time.
