I experienced killer skeeters in Canada. I had to carry a moskie net around just to be outside, wrapped my tent net around my entire body. They were out for blood.
I figure if the bears get too nosy, I can throw a few skeeters at them to ward them off - they can dine on the skeeters, since they're so big. One or two skeeters and they won't be hungry at all.
Thanks for the encouragement. I atcually am pretty scared of the grizz.
Don't be scared, but for sure, be bear wise and respectful. If you are out walking, make a racket and keep your dogs under control. You don't want them off chasing bears. That's a good way to loose a dog.
Plan out your food issues. Storage and disposal. Don't burn your food waste. That smell says FOOD HERE.
If you are thinking of a defensive tool...you 'can' bring in a shotgun or even some pistols, but you'll need to know the rules. Go to the CDN Border website and make phone calls. Otherwise, once you are into Canada, go to a hardware store and buy a can (2) of Wasp spray. That stuff is some powerfully bad s**t. Better than any bear spray.
Having said this...the absolute best thing is to be bear aware.
