In 2013 we saved $230 over the price of the $100 cost of the book (ie we purchased $660 worth of tickets for half price). There were several other tours that we had planned on but canceled due to route or weather changes.
One that we canceled after purchasing the tickets was the train out of Skagway since it decided to rain that day. As it turned out the road out of Skagway is on the same general route as the train. The train would have been fun and I as the driver would have seen a lot more. The train is loaded with the cruise line folks and they cannot get out at the turnaround border which I assume means that they don't need to go through border checks???
I highly recommend the Haines Junction, Haines, ferry to Skagway route BTW.
And the Skagway ferry dock which sank last week is floating again and being inspected. It should be certified for operation again about 5/7.
