Hmmmm, I've worked in Alaska in the fall and October weather generally didn't "cooperate" even in Anchorage. In fact, one October day I did a 360 at Arctic Valley ski area--not on skis, but on the access road in a Chevy Suburban!
While the CG industry is pretty much shutdown by late September/early October in Alaska (one should see glitter gulch near Denali in October and the absolute lack of human activity. Yea!) and while the weather can have snow, freezing rain, and sunshine all in the same day in Los Anchorage, the scenery in September and October can be pretty spectacular and really (IMNSHO) shows the unique nature of Alaska.
If one can swing dealing with CG's being few and far between and dicey weather, the chance to see Alaska in a season that most miss out on shouldn't be overlooked.
