Using the Good Sam trip planner I am able to find CGs that are open at least through October. My only challenge is a 435 mile drive from Gakona to Haines Jct. I don't see a CG in between that is open to cut the distance on that drive. Does anyone know of a hidden gem?
The worst frost heave on the entire Alaska Highway is the stretch from Border City, AK, to the White River, YT, and another bad stretch, but only 10 miles long, is on the Tok Cutoff. So trying to drive the long stretch between Gakona and Haines Junction in one day will be very difficult.
You might want to check with Ida's Motel in Beaver Creek to see if they are open after all the RV parks are closed (Email: famhotel@polarcom.com). Or maybe Sue Thomas has a relative or friend in Beaver Creek who would let you plug in! If not, contact the Beaver Creek tourist info center. They have some very nice people working there and will go out of their way to find something for you. But be sure to contact them early because they also close Sept. 15!
The Burwash Landing RV Park also shows a closing date of Sept. 30 on the Good Sam site. But nothing seems to open later than that date.
Good luck!
