Dawson Creek to Fort Nelson is a hectic, busy area. We ended up sharing a road widening with numerous transport trucks after having driven for endless hours looking for a place to camp. We checked Fort Nelson, Pink Mountain, Wonowon, Ft St John - nothing was available. Then after 400 miles and being tired, we pulled in behind a parked transport truck at about 9 p.m. and went to sleep.
The trucks on the road are in a hurry to get where they're going, with deadlines to meet. So keep your own rig pointed straight and slow to let them pass when they have an opportunity. Nothing worse than an impatient trucker behind you!
Because of that experience, we started using the Cassiar Highway both north and south bound.
