Kinda off / on topic..... working our way to Great Falls. We are presently in Sheridan WY. Want to get to Grizzly CG in West Yellowstone. The current debate between pilot and navigator is going the I90 route or cutting across 14 to east Yellowstone w/ 30 ft 5er? Who's done both and or has experience with either route??? Need ideas tonight. Roger
If you have been to Cody before or do not like to drive on steep, winding mountain roads, then take the I-90 route.
If you have experience towing your trailer in the high mountains, both of you are comfortable doing it, you have a tow vehicle that can handle a 9,000-foot pass, and you have not been to Cody or driven from the east gate through the park to West Yellowstone, take US 14. Alternate 14 through Powell is somewhat more scenic than 14 through Greybull, but the Bighorn Mountains portion may have just opened (it is closed in winter) and consequently may be in pretty rough shape.
Check the road conditions before you leave Sheridan, as Wyoming and Colorado just had a major snowstorm last weekend--www.wyoroad.info/511/ or phone Wyoming 511 (toll free).
However, if you do go to Cody, you need to allow at least a day for the Buffalo Bill Museum complex.
