I put my Verizon chip in the moto g, and it was recognized, but the G doesn't contain a CDMA or LTE radio, so it won't work on the Verizon network.
However, the Moto G does work with any GSM service provider world wide. I'm using Canadian 7/11 SpeakOut service, and voice and data were working until about Houston, BC... and then they cut out... so I have no phone until I get to Alaska I guess and can pickup Verizon again.
