ALASKA HIGHWAY GEOLOGY:
If you are interested in the geology along the highways you are driving on your way to Alaska or while you are in Alaska, please take a look at my two "Milepost Alaska Highway Geology" blogs. The blogs are arranged by day (highway segment) and use the
Milepost mile-marker designations to locate the geologic features along the highways.
If you are traveling north on the
Milepost "Central Access Route", then north on the Cassiar Highway, go to
Milepost Alaska Highway Geology.
If you are traveling north on the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek, go to
Milepost Alaska Highway Geology 2This blog began during our trip to Alaska last summer and is still under construction. But it might add something different to your trip, especially when visiting/seeing some of northern Canada and Alaska's most fascinating geologic features.
Included are such features as the 1964 Alaska Earthquake, Mt. McKinley and the Alaska Range, the Denali Fault, the volcanoes of the Alaska Peninsula, the Aleutian and Tintina Trenches, permafrost, glaciers and ice sheets, the Kennecott copper mine, and the Devil's Canyon dam project.
Have fun on your trips!
