Well, I'm here on the Alaska mainland finally - I don't count my 2 hr excursion to Hyder as making it to Alaska.
The Alaska Highway, west of Destruction Bay till the AK border is a REAL ROLLERCOASTER of a road way. It appears repairs have not yet begun, except the last 10 miles east from the border, they had the pilot car and traffic control setup, but no repairs underway yet.
Despite driving mostly around 30-40kmh, I lost a trailer tire about 90K from Beaver Creek. Nothing much to swapping it with the spare, I was ready with a 24-inch 1/2" drive breaker bar and an cordless impact gun. As I was gathering my tools, three long 5th wheel rigs blew by me at 80K, so I setup some flares about 200 meters up the road from me. No other west bound traffic after those three trucks, go figure.

thanks for the update on the road conditions. sorry for your tire, but glad it wasn't any worse...hope those 3 folks in the 5th wheels read your post and have at least a twinge of conscience!
