The Alaska Highway, west of Destruction Bay till the AK border is a REAL ROLLERCOASTER of a road way. It appears repairs have not yet begun, except the last 10 miles east from the border, they had the pilot car and traffic control setup, but no repairs underway yet.
They don't do much repair through that section, it is what it is. When I went through end of March it was actually in decent shape, although my car bottomed out once between White River and Beaver Creek. That gravel stretch before the border was about the best of the highway--nice and smooth. It has been repaired, just needs to be chipsealed now.

For my last night in Canada, I illegally parked on the North side turn out of Kluane Lake for the night - WHAT A VIEW! I understand and agree with the NO CAMPING signs, but there's also new looking NO OVERNIGHT PARKING signs at every single turn-out, pull-off, rest area, boat launch, trail head, etc, only in YK, and nearly every gravel pit has a shiny new gate across it.
You were about five minutes from Congdon Creek gov't campground, one of the best in Yukon. Too bad you didn't stay there, it is lovely. The pullout you stayed in is also nice, but open and exposed so can be noisy with the semi-trucks going by all night. The information centre near the Slims River bridge lets RVs camp overnight. If someone is there when they leave, they don't close the gate. If no one is in the parking lot, they close the gate.
I don't mind seeing the no camping signs at the pullouts. Since those started showing up, the areas stay much cleaner. In the past it wasn't uncommon to see garbage, old fire pits and piles of toilet paper strewn around the sites. Now they're cleaner and more enjoyable for all.
The gravel pit gates have been up for years. Not new at all. Don't need to paint things too often here for them to stay bright and shiny. A stroll through the long-closed portion of the campground at Congdon Creek reveals how little abuse the facilities take from Mother Nature; much of it still looks new there!
