We are Talkeetna now. Destruction Bay to Beaver Creek was bad! We broke up the trip from Whitehorse to Tok into 2 days. Stopped in Destruction Bay then drove to Tok. I drove 35 mph max for the part from about 1815km to Beaver creek. Enjoyed the scenery, saw a couple of grizzlies we wouldn't have seen if we'd been driving fast!
Tok to Delta Junction for the Buffalo burgers then to Paxson and the Denali Highway. Started seeing the smoke from the Kenai fires in the mountains north of the Denali highway. Drove the Denali Highway today. It was a beating for 110 miles! We drove 25-35 mph most of the time! Sometimes we were down to 15! I guess we could call it an overdue shakedown cruise! Would've been beautiful without the smoke!
Onto Anchorage tomorrow for a few days!
