This from the US National Weather Service Alaska (their facebook updates) today:
Cold and snow will return to Southcentral Alaska's mountains and hillsides this weekend.
After a stretch of record-setting summer-like heat and dry May days over much of Southcentral Alaska... a powerful blast of Arctic cold will move inland from the Bering Sea Friday and reach Southcentral Alaska Saturday.
As the cold air moves in from the West and meets up with wet air over Southcentral Alaska.. snow will develop over popular hiking and recreation areas on all regional mountain ranges and some hillsides will see rain mixed with snow.
Snow levels will drop to as low as 2000 feet above sea level on Saturday. The combination of wind...cold air...and snow increases the risk of hypothermia during outdoor activities Saturday...especially if you are unprepared for the weather change.
Residents and visitors to the region are urged to monitor weather forecasts and current conditions before setting out. Bring appropriate and extra dry gear for the colder weather.
