Has anybody got a ride report for the Cassiar? Just heard from a guy here in Valdez that it was horrible. I also heard that it was fine from another person. Just wanting to confirm for our return trip.
When was the Valdez commenter last on the Cassiar?
My impression was that the Cassiar is better than the Alaska Highway between Destruction Bay and Border City. The Cassiar is chip-sealed, not asphalt, has very little shoulder in some places, has some missing centerlines, has some road construction--just like every other highway in the North, and has frost-heaved pavement for 10-15 miles north of Dease Lake and the same distance south of Junction 37/Watson Lake.
My conclusion was that it is more scenic than much of the Alaska Highway northwest of Liard Hot Springs. And Stewart-Hyder is not to be missed--especially Salmon Glacier!
