On a side note, from Canada to USA, you are not allowed to bring tomatoes, wood, pepper, galic, onions, potatoes, any exotic fruits ( citrus, bananas, etc.), apples and some more. So my rule will be no fruit no veggies unless they is a specific mention from USA on the bag. You can get a sheet from custom and it list all the stuff you are not allowed, they took my tomatoes and some small charcoal wood and the guy was pretty rude, no smilly face there!
There was no problem with porc, chicken or fish. NOt allowes is lamb and cheep, even in your dog's food.
