Has anybody got a ride report for the Cassiar? Just heard from a guy here in Valdez that it was horrible. I also heard that it was fine from another person. Just wanting to confirm for our return trip.
Road condition reports seem to be highly subjective, as another person put it, varies per person.
I found #37 to be pleasant from Smithers to Kinaskan Lake, and very little traffic (this was mid-May)
From Kinaskan to Dease Lake it was OK, some broken heaves here and there, but the traffic was very heavy - due to locals out and about, Canadream RV transporters and construction on the disgusting transmission line project (think SCORCHED EARTH type construction.)
North of Dease to the Alcan, the road was AWFUL in my humble opinion. Mechanically it wasn't very bad, the heaves had not broken the surface of the road way, just for a lot of waves. Going slow, the waves would flex my suspension and the entire rig would vassilate, as if on a small ship in rollers on a lake. If I went faster, the truck's suspension would cancel out the waves, but the trailer would buck. Worst part was from Jade City North.
To be frank, I was taking a lot of stops to vomit and was sick as a dog by the time I reached the Alcan thanks to that last stretch of roadway.
