Chilkoot Lake is one of the most scenic places we visited in Alaska last summer. We didn't camp there, but went out one morning at 5:30 AM to see bald eagles on the advice of a person we met the night before at dinner at the Lighthouse Restaurant. My wife used her 500mm telephoto on a tripod to get great photos of two bald eagles on a gravel bar in the river. Every individual feather was sharp in the photos and even the pupils of their eyes were in focus! We were actually much closer to the eagles than we were later at the Bald Eagle Preserve on the Chilkat River.
