We are at the Glowing Embers RV Resort near Edmonton. I got a bit discouraged yesterday. The trip from Texas has been long and tiring (and boring for the grandsons), the wind was relentless in Alberta yesterday, and We got a minor chip in the windshield yesterday (on a good highway no less). We will be in Dawson Creek tonight, and we will finally began to receive some reward for the days on the road. Being part of a group of enthusiastic fellow travelers really helps me to keep my perspective and my eyes on the ultimate prize.
BTW, does anyone know of a place in Dawson Creek to get a windshield ding repaired? I have a do-it-yourself kit, but I do not want to bungle the job and I'd like to save it for a more serious chip that needs immediate attention if that occurs.
Not fun fighting winds, but the winds and rains will not be the full way... And yeah, damage to rigs or toads is no fun either:)!
We picked up three chips at the same time. Mothers Days, driving North from Northern Lights RV Park out of Dawson Creek. We were doing the stop-light to stop-light shuffle thru Fort St John. I was in the left lane, and a water tank truck was in the right lane. A 1 ton dual truck did not like our slower speeds, and blasted around us over a very dirty double yellow zoned median. He cut in very quick on us, IMO on purpose to do damage (the locals called it 'peppering the guests'). Two on the left, one larger then a silver dollar. I missed the smallest one on the right section of the split screen, and did not get it repaired.
We ended up calling around while having other repairs done, and the local glass shops were two days out on appointments. Called Speedy Glass back in Dawson City, and they said they would work us in as soon as we got to them. So we drove back to Dawson City, and they had the two chips repaired (with a very clear caution that he big one may not hold) within 45 mins. Then back North we went to spend the night at the Wallmart at Fort St John...
Speedy Glass did OK in my opinion, and got me in and out as promised.
Relax, and just add it up to the experience of the trip - it's has been more then worth it to us:)!
Best,
Smitty
