Deadhorse report. Just got back today after 7 days up the Dalton. It was raining except for two days after we passed the Atigun Pass. From Atigun to Deadhorse, sun was with us and back to Galbraith campground, could not beleive it! We saw some guys / girls on bycicle, very miserable on the muddy trail but I guess this is the life they like!. Many motorcycles with mud all over, one guy on a horse, Ridding for Orphan and a few hitchhickers.
The Arctic Ocean tour was pure blue sky, marvelous. We saw some Caribous near Deadhorse but no Muskox, no bear, no wolfe, no Dahl Sheep, a few rabbit before the Atigun. Galbraith is a very nice place, small flowers where blooming all over.
There is a new free modern Dump station at the Hot Spot Cafe camping, just after the Yukon River, but no drinking water. Diesel at Coldfoot and Deadhorse is a little over 5.00$.
The road was VERY muddy on the gravel portions. The road before the Atigun was OK, muddy, but OK, a few pot holes here and there but OK muddy gravel, be carreful when crossing the big trucks but they slow down when you come close, I just stop and let them go by. It does not seem too slipery but if you step on the pedal from a stop it will spin the wheels.
After the Atigun, it was ok muddy gravel and a few short asphalt portions. It was rough between Oil spill Hill and Happy Valey, washboard and rough gravel. The 15 miles road construction near Galbraith was pretty good except for a few miles of rough, big gravel, I hate those portion because the rocks are big, sharp and prone to flat tires. The place where they had an oil spill is no problem to go by.
There was a truck camper that had a broken wheel or Axle near Yukon River, we saw the tow truck comming from Fairbanks. We saw a motorcycle and a travel trailer with flat tires.
Go slow you will be OK. It is raining, it is muddy all over, the moskitos are King of the North, they are big and small and are plenty, they will eat you alive and never get satisfied, real vampires.
The sun is there, just above the clouds, I saw it in Deadhorse and it is comming down this way!
