Bummer!! I was so looking forward to the TOW section. So the only choice if you want to visit Dawson is to go back the same way you came? Would it be better to make that trip in reverse on the way home and hope it is more dry in a month or so?
My experience has been that August is generally dryer and sunnier in Alaska than June. We went over the TOW "highway" last August with no rain or mud at all. We just had sharp rocks on a section under construction on the Alaska side of the border that caused two flat tires on our truck and several distant bush fires that created enough smoke to obscure some of the TOW's magnificent views. But it was clear in Dawson City and the views from the top of Midnight Dome were spectacular.
