Feeling a bit sad this morning as this is our last night in Alaska (on this trip) and I have certainly had a wonderful time. Last night, here in Hyder, as we were driving about 400 yards from Camp Run-A-Muck, a black bear ambled across the road. We stopped to take pictures and all of the sudden someone fired a "bear bomb" which probably scared me more than the bear.
That's awesome. We saw a lot of wildlife on this trip also. Grizzly, Black Bear, Moose, Elk, Caribou, Eagles. We even saw a Lynx walking about 40-50 feet from us in DeNali as we hiked along a trail. We just have cell phone camera's so we got a few shots of it but not that spectacular. Did some Halibut fishing in Homer and got my limit in about 20 minutes....Fresh fish on the grill with my wife's Green Thai Curry (She is Thai).
Now we are in Whistler and we leave in the AM for Vancouver and a ride down the west coast of us and home to Fl in October. Whistler is nice but I really prefer the remoteness and solitude of Alaska. Fairbanks, Homer and Valdez were great but Seward tops the list for me. The city run campgrounds are very reasonably priced and right on Resurrection Bay. Really enjoyed the Kenai Fjords dinner cruise too. The Kenai Peninsula is awesome to me. Skagway was nice but being that we did not reserve a campground we were unable to find a site and had to be put in overflow with no hook-ups. We tried to book a Haines/Juneau excursion from there but RV caravans had everything booked.
Overall; Alaska=AWESOME!!!
This was a bucket-list trip for us. I retired from my first career last September, finished up my degree in the spring and we are taking time now for ourselves before I start back in the grind of job hunting-working again. We are fortunate to be able to do this.
