I've made a few winter trips. For all the reasons that MORSNOW mentioned, winter travel can actually be more enjoyable. Couple of thoughts:
- Have your vehicle with the right protection level of anti-freeze. I used to plan on -50, but maybe that's not necessary in the global warming days;
- A cover for the front-end (to stop the superchilled air from hitting the radiator) might be just the ticket.
- I'm old school: Winter travel means taking chains; a handyman jack; a snow shovel; a spade; and the usual miscellany of scrapers, boosters, jumper cables, etc.
- Bunny boots if you can find them; Good pac-boots otherwise.
- Back to the old-school thing again: For winter travel in a vehicle, I always have a "snowmobile suit"....Walls or Refrigiwear coverall big enough to fit a layer or two underneath. Too heavy to use in the PA-12 where (if I go down,I'd likely have to hike out) but just the thing for in a vehicle.
