I would start fixing tires. Dismount , repair , remount and inflate with a huffer puffer devise that screwed into a spark plug hole on the engine.
Am I reading this correctly? A tire filled with air and Gasoline Vapors which was expected to blow out enroute? Really!!!?? OSHAA would have a ball with this today! I've done foolish things, too. How did we all live to adulthood?
Research Schrader spark plug tire pump service kit No. 888-G-K-for all motors . Inflates clean , cool air .
This device "bought my my Dad in the forty's and still available for use in my tool cabinet" has an inlet valve that draws outside air into the cylinder on the intake stroke , "the intake valve is open on the engine , but at an idle the intake manifold on carburetor engines is running a negative pressure of 17 to 20 inch pounds of vacuum , so the air is drawn from the much higher pressure outside air". Then on the pressure stroke the fresh air is pumped into the tire via the attached hose with built in gauge . Not fast , but sure beats an old hand pump.
My guess is we lived to adulthood by using our wits to get things done , unlike the folks of today who are mostly helpless to get anything done in a pinch or having to have the government give their approval - or not .:)
