"There are/were two airstrips in Talkeetna, the nice paved one just across the railroad track from the in town private campground, and the dirt strip just about in town. One end of the dirt strip was just a block off of the main street. The last time I was in Talkeetna, five or six years back, the dirt strip was still being used some, mainly by tail draggers equipped with the large ballon type bush tires. Too expensive to skuff up on pavement. LOL"
...the legendary village strip. I was there last summer (2013) and the alleged (IIRC) 1600 x 30' dimensions have been encroached to I'd guess 1000 x 25. That strip always concerned me..size-wise it's great and the dirt/gravel hides skidding on a crappy landing, but the possibility of a dog or a kid running out always worried me...never saw it happen, but have only landed there 10 -15 times. Talkeetna's airspace is scary busy (for only an FSS served airport) in the spring/summer.
40,000+ hours is simply awesome. A life spent in the air...meaning a good thing.
