Great stories, much appreciated. In 2013 we were at both of the airports at Talkeetna and now there is so much more context about the area thanks for your stories. We went there for the Red Flag Stop Railroad - for the poster that wanted 2015 trip info that's one that is fablous! Highly recommend you schedule this in and you'll get a glimpse of locals that live or play in remote areas along the tracks.
We stayed at the Talkeetna Fish and Game RV park - Disclaimer: If you want full hookups, etc avoid this CG like the plague. While there Patty a local arrives: But Patty from Wasilla didn't arrive like us - Nope she arrived with her Extreme Shallow jetboat full of kids, firewood, dogs, tents and fishing gear as she does every weekend. It's only about 40 miles up the river... "Other than fuel the fish are free"... Among other things she's on the winter moose road kill list and the roads folks bring one every winter. Husband? Never saw one. We knew that we had meet our first "Real Alaskan Woman". And as it turned out she was not the last...
