Some of the attraction for driving to the slope is that one can (could?) take tours up there and drive to or on or close to the Arctic Ocean. Also there are/were some degree of tours of the oil operations...which may be unique even if the tour guide has a burr or a Texas accent.
FWIW, I entirely agree with the suggestion below!....particularly if the trip to Alaska is a "once-in-a-lifetime" trip:
