If it still possible for Missouri Bird and others planning to take the ferry this summer, try to include Sitka on your ferry route. Three reasons: 1) Sitka has the most beautiful setting and harbor in Alaska, 2) you won't see as many bald eagles in one place anywhere else in Alaska, including the bald eagle preserve near Haines (you can see dozens flying around the harbor at one time and they nest in the enormous Sitka spruce that cover all the tiny islets in the harbor), and 3) the trip through Peril Strait is one that no cruise ship can take (too narrow) and is an absolutely thrilling ride (ever seen a 408' ship fish-tail? You will on the ferry through Peril Strait!).
It's just a suggestion because you'll have a great time whether you go to Sitka or not. Yes, I've been to Valdez, Seward, Homer, Whittier, Juneau, Haines, Skagway, Talkeetna, and Denali multiple times and even to non-RV locations like Kodiak, Nome, Kotzebue, the Kobuk Valley, and the Aleutians. All are scenic and all have their fans, but Sitka is still my favorite town in the "Last Frontier."
