You can do it without the toad. The usual options are walk, call a taxi, take a shuttle or rent a car. Sue T mentions the Gov't campgrounds. Most are back-in places, not pull thrus. You will be a lot more maneuverable with no toad for most all of your trip. If you wanted to spend a week around Soldotna, for example, parked in one spot and going to various places to fish or hike or various stores, then a toad would be good. If the trip is to stop at various places and then move on, should not be a burden to not have one.
