Whitehorse is right on the Yukon in a big wide valley. You can stroll along the downtown riverway with shops and restaurants and to a small park. It has a trolley service also. You can drive up out of the valley to various viewpoints. It has a couple of neat museums (Berengia and the one with the airplane weathervane, can't recall the name). Whitehorse hasn't been totally touristified yet, though is working on it.
But none of this really was the reason I like it. It's hard to put your finger on, but I think it relates to the feeling that you're right in the middle of huge territory, on the edge of wilderness. If you go to Sue's blog (she's a member here), she lives near Whitehorse and has a lot of info on the area and will give you an idea of why the area is so attractive.
Thanks. I think I'll put it on my list of places to layover on my 2018 Alaska trip. It sounds like a pleasant place to spend a few days.
