Another inportant point to keep in mind is Canadiann Customs changes their regulations on a regular basis. So prior to departing and either bringing things that are not permitted or buying them in the US thinking it will be cheaper then in Canada, you may be instructed to toss it out before they will let you in the country. Do some on line research if your not sure. You'll be surprised at some of the things they will have issue with.
Firearms (NO, or too much hassel)
Pet Food (limited quantity)
Beer, Liquor, Wine (limited quantities)
Things like meat, veggies and fruit are always changing so I just stop at the first decent size town with a grocery store and stock up in BC.
At one point even canned soup with meat in it was forbiden to enter the country. At least beaf. Think that was back when Mad Cow Disease was the big news maker.
Pets: Obtain a Health Certificate from the Vet you use designed to permit the pet to make foreign travel. Not just a proof of shots that are current.
Vehicle Insurance: Obtain a proof of insurnace ID card from your agent specific to Canadian Provinces. The little card you carry around the US is not sufficient should you be involved in a traffic accident in Canada. This also insures that your specific insurance company covers you while in Canada. Unlike Mexico most cover Canada. Mexico requires you buy insurnace in country or buy it from a broaker in the states.
That's all for now. Keep planning everyone, the days till each of us depart are flying by.
