I went last June and car camped, which means I slept in my car and sometimes a tent. The mosquitoes were really a nuisance, sometimes to the point of making you want to cry, and I had screens on all my windows. But you always take a bunch in with you when going in and out. The light was also difficult, made it hard to sleep when it was still daylight at 11 pm. I never had any bear problems.

It's not something I'll repeat. Next time I'll have a motorhome or camper. There was also a lot of smoke from fires, which I think would be less bothersome inside a rig. Having a motorhome means not having to search so hard for safe spots, as you can pull over in rest areas, gravel pits, etc., and in a tent, it doesn't feel so safe.

I thought tent camping would simplify things, make it easier to get around. It was indeed easier to get around, but I don't think it was worth the hardship. I did rent a house when in Alaska, which was nice and made me realize what a pain camping in mosquitoland was. I won't go back without adequate shelter. I've camped in mosquitoes before, but not for such long stretches. I guess if you went later in the season it might be more bearable.
