Riding the rattling school bus to Wonder Lake was one of the high points of our trip and I would do it again in a heartbeat. We had Wendy Hester for our driver and a whole bus load of friendly helpful folks. We saw THE mountain over and over again as well as all kinds of animals. The landscape was spectacular and it was just too much fun! We got our ticket the day before. lizzie
EXACTLY!
Besides if you don't ride all the way to Kantishna how are you going to learn about Fanny Quigley killing a bear so she could have some grease to make a pie? (You have to be there to appreciate her!) If you are going to Kantishna you will make the mandatory stop at the lake. Who knows you may be one of the uber lucky ones that get that once in a lifetime photo of The Mountain (Denali) reflected in a perfectly calm Wonder Lake! Everyone should make this trip at least once just to be able to say you did it and to see the beautiful scenery. The only time we haven't gone to the end of the road was in 2014 when the creek flooded by the Kantishna Lodge and washed out the road for a few days.
