Please add us to this illustrious list!!! glad to be part of it. we're dominic and sue-originally from NY, now we are from Arizona.
We are in Mount Vernon, Washington for a week then hope to cross the border next weekend at Sumas/Abbottsford.
We were in Alaska in 2014 and I'm seeing the cost of campgrounds has gotten much higher since then. we used a lot of passport america parks, which are no longer part of the program..
does anyone have any ideas as to how to avoid $30-45/night camping? i don't mind dry camping, but also need to hookup every week or so...
thanks,
Boondocking is pretty easy in Alaska, just about any pull out or side road can be used, Walmart is also a good option. In Yukon, there is less oportunity but the governement campgrounds are not expensive, like $12.00 a night. Great Walmart in Whitehorse. In BC while going up, provincial campgrounds are in the $20.00.
You really do not have to pay $35 a night to camp in AK. A few places I found I did not have much choice to stay in a formal campground if I wanted to take a few days in towns were Dawson city, Valdez, Homer, Denali and Seward. I used a few other campground in order to dump or refill but nowhere near $35. Most of the time I stayed free, walmart or boondock in the wild.
