There are all kinds of options on any trip. For us the 2700 miles we drove the car on the Alaskan trip opened up a lot of car exploring options. In Valdez we stayed at the park on the water near the terminal. Multiple times we saw mama and cub in the river, visited Old Vadez, checked out the spillionaires out of place large homes (opportunity knocked for them), etc.
2700 miles in AK with the toad is impressive! I see your point that there are places that you would not go or explore otherwise.
