Wait till you get to Muncho Lake on the Alaska Highway! A couple of years ago, we paid over $8.00/gallon there and over $6.00/gallon at Bell II on the Cassiar Highway. It may be a little cheaper now, but those remote fuel stops know you can't just drive a couple of blocks down the highway to get gas at a competitor's station, so they charge appropriately. In addition, when you realize how far those stations are from the nearest wholesaler, not to mention refinery, it's easy to see the $$$$ adding up just to truck it there.
You also have to add in the loss of supply in western Canada due to the shut-down of the oil sands production at Fort McMurray due to the fire. I read today that residents there are just now getting back into their homes, assuming they still have one to go back to. So, prices will likely get even higher as the summer progresses.
