Someone mentioned staying in the park for a better experience. The campground above/@ Savage River I understand is closed due to unfriendly bear(s) max POV allowed is mm 12.4. (Savage River is 17.4mm) Don't know for how long but I don't need the hassle of a better experience with a PO'd bear outside my door at night.
I just looked at Denali's web site and there are no campground closures in Denali.

The front campground of Denali - Riley Creek - is very nice. There's lots to do there - ranger programs, easy hikes, etc. You can take the bus tour to Eilson Visitor Center or further if you want. The drivers are very informative and are excellent at spotting the animals. They stop and let you view them.
We spent 5 nights in Riley Creek without reservations but pulled in early morning when folks were leaving. We also spent 5 nights at Teklanika campground. We saw THE mountain on beautiful sunny days 7 of 10 days and all the major animals many times.
The park was a great experience.
