Have made 20+ trips on the highway to / from Alaska to L48 and having driven in AK since '76 (!!!)....trick is to drive according to the rig you're driving and the road conditions.
Based on numerous trips Los Anchorage-Glenallen-Valdez-Squarebanks-Talkeetna-Palmer etc in the past 18 months, the primary highways in Alaska are much better when they were 10 years ago when I started my last sojourn to Houston. If one drives appropriate to conditions and the rig, no reason to expect the RV will be unduly likely to be trashed. It can happen but a damaged RV is not a certainty.
If one want's to drive Los Anchorage to Squarebanks via Glenallen in 7 hours or so, take a good stout pickup truck (Don't ask me how I know)....not an RV. Otherwise, take your time and enjoy the drive.
