At Tok you can continue straight on the AK Hwy and do a counter-clockwise circle to return to Tok.
Or turn left onto the Tok cut-off and Glenn Highway and do a clockwise circle to return to Tok.
We usually check the weather in Valdez when we're at Tok. If it is sunny we head to Valdez first to enjoy the beauty. It if is raining, then we head to Fairbanks first and hope the weather clears by the time we get to Valdez. The drive into Valdez is spectacular http://yukonsights.ca/20100824_Nabesna-Blueberry.html
One trip, the rain was harsh at Valdez and none of the glorious sights could be seen. So now we let Mother Nature determine whether we're going clockwise or counter-clockwise around the circle.
